3/21/2007 The Marten Creek Trail is in dire need of maintenance. The Trail starts just before the wooden bridge about 2.3 miles into the Snoqualmie Lake trail. The trail is on the left and is pretty difficult to spot. Make sure to stop at the waterfall and take in the view for awhile. When you continue up the Marten Creek Trail you will soon realize that the trail is more of a game trail. It can be difficult to stay on the trail since it is so over grown and destroyed from the winter rain and snow. Make sure to keep you eyes peeled for turns so you do not end up in the middle of the forest. When you finally come out of the tree line you will come up to a steep Eastern facing slope that is covered in brambles and patches of snow. Make sure to bring gators because you will get wet up to about your knees. When you cross the open bramble field (basically skirting the tree line on a pseudo-trail) you will come to a steep ridge and find the trail climbing up the ridge into the woods. This trail will climb for about 300 feet and then drop down about 200 feet to Marten Lake. The bowl surrounding Marten Lake is completely covered in hard packed snow. Once you get to the lake you will realize that the hike was totally worth it...although you may not want to camp there. If you are planning on camping there is a nice spot in the woods before the bramble field to stay (unless it is raining this area turns into a river). |
