Trail:
The f irst 0.7 mile the trail goes on the old road leading to the old clear-cut forest and starts climbing up. The trail evens up for about 0.5 mile and then ascends steeply for about 2 miles to the junction with trail #640A to Myrtle Lake (left fork). About 0.3 mile downhill takes you to a pretty lake with marshy shores. There is rocky "beach" on the south side of the lake. The lake is not very deep and may be good for swimming. From the junction for about a mile the trail continues through swampy meadows and crosses several small creeks before it starts climbing quite steeply for the last time (about 1 mile). Pay attention not to lose the trail on the rocky slope. You will see remains of Mt. Higgins Lookout on the summit . Your effort will be rewarded with the wonderful view on Glacier Peak, White Horse , Three Fingers, Mt. Baker and even Mt. Rainier.
