Follow Smithbrook Trail to Pacific Crest Trail for 0.9 mile. Turn left (south) onto PCT. The trail goes through the woods with little elevation gain for about one mile to an open slope, that offers nice view of the Mt. Lichtenberg (5844 ft). A steady 0.7 mile climb leads to the ridge. The trail descends providing magnificent view of the Lake Valhalla. In 0.3 mile it reaches a junction, where PCT continues strait and a short 0.1 mile trail to the left leads to the lake, right spur goes to horse camp. Follow a non-maintained trail that goes along the west shore for about 0.5. This part of the trail is quite overgrown at times. The trail leads to a campsite near the creek. Cross the creek and continue on along the south slope (don't ascend) for about 0.7 mile to the gully. Ascend along the gully to the ridge (0.3 mile). You can see Lichtenwasser Lake from here . To get to the lake descend along the gully and then follow the creek drainage for about 0.7 mile. To the summit turn left (west) on the ridge and ascend for 0.2 mile to the east summit, continue on for another 0.2 mile to the west summit that offers great view of the Lake Valhalla .
