Follow Smithbrook Trail to Pacific Crest Trail for 0.9 mile. Smithbrook Trail ends at T junction with Pacific Crest Trail. Look for signs indicating directions to Lake Valhalla (south) and Janus Lake (north). Turn right (north) onto PCT. It descends on the open slope for about one mile. In some parts the trail is rocky and rough. Then it evens up and after crossing a creek the trail enters the woods reaches Janus Lake in about another mile. There are several nice campsites on the south side of the lake. A primitive trail leads around the lake. North and east shores are marshy and passable only in dry season. East side of the lake is covered with water-lilies. There is fresh water spring near the east shore.
