July 27, 2000

Follow PCT North for 2.5 miles to the Commonwealth Basin Trail that goes to the left.

From the junction with PCT the trail goes through the woods and in 0.4 mile crosses a creek, passes several campsites and continues for another 0.2 mile without elevation gain. For the next 0.9 mile the trail steeply switchbacks to a small lake. About 300 feet before the lake climbers route to Red Mountain goes to the right.

Near the lake there is a junction, where left fork leads to the lake and a campsite, and a right one continues further steeply climbing for about 0.5 mile to Red Pass. Beautiful view of the valley and the mountains opens from the pass. From the junction at the pass an old PCT route quickly descends to the right and further connects with the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Trail 1003. This route is no longer maintained, at times very brushy and hard to follow.

The trail to Lundin Peak goes straight, and in about 0.3 mile of steep switchbacks reaches the summit. A breathtaking view opens from here on Cave Ridge, Snoqualmie Mountain , Red Mountain , Big Snow Mountain , Mount Thompson , and Mount Rainier on clear day.
