From the junction with the Lakes Trail #211 the trail descends for about 0.1 mile to the bridge over the Coldwater Creek. After bridge crossing the trail switchbacks as it climbs up the slope for about 1.1 mile. The trail is quite overgrown in this area. As the trail reaches a small creek, it turns right and continues on for 0.4 mile ascending the slope overlooking Coldwater Lake. The trail turns right as it enters an old logging road and follows it for about 0.1 mile. The next 0.3 mile the trail goes through the old clear-cut to the junction with the South Coldwater Trail #230A. You can see remains of the bulldozer that was destroyed during the 1980 eruption . In another 0.3 mile the trail reaches Ridge Camp. You need Mount Margaret Backcountry Permit to stay at the camp. Campfires are prohibited. Backcountry toilet is available at the camp. For the next 0.7 mile the trail climbs up the slope overlooking Coldwater Creek canyon . You can see a nice waterfall down in a valley . As the trail makes a sharp turn south, the slopes get quite steep, and the trail continues climbing up for another 0.5 mile to the pass. A good view of the Mount St. Helens, Minnie Peak and other mountains opens up from here. The next 0.7 mile the trail gradually climbs to the southwest slope of the Coldwater Peak. In 0.2 mile the trail reaches a junction with the Boundary Trail #1.
