The
trail starts at a junction with Miners
Ridge Trail # 785 on the east side of Image Lake .
There is no sign indicating Canyon Lake Trail, but a note "Trail is
not maintained". Going through the meadows on the eastern side of
the lake, it climbs the ridge and quickly drops into the valley. Views
of Plummer and Sitting Bull Mountains are astonishing. In about one
mile the trail enters an old forest. In about 0.5 mile the trail starts
climbing, leaving the woods and entering meadows several times. At
times when the trail comes out onto rocky slopes, it can be very slippery
due to snow and water. The trail steeply descends (about 0.5 mile)
to the lake. The lake is very beautiful. It is definitely worth the
effort
.
An impressive cirque
with waterfalls and snow field almost completely rounds the lake leaving
open just the south shore, which is covered with meadows. |
